Hammerite metal protective paint is a rust-protective coating for all bare, rusted or old painted ferrous metals, non-ferrous metals after appropriate pre-treatment (see below), such as garden fences, garden furniture, stair and balcony railings, window grilles, lamps, bicycles, trellises, windows, etc. The metal protective coatings are also suitable for radiators.
A prerequisite for reliable corrosion protection is a dry film thickness of at least 100 µm. This layer thickness is achieved after 2-3 coats when applied with a brush or roller. Always apply Hammerite Metal Protective Paint Glossy wet-on-wet to avoid build-up.
Bare ferrous metals: Sand very smooth surfaces. Remove grinding dust. Clean the surface very carefully with Hammerite Metal Cleaner. Rusted ferrous metals: Remove loose particles with a wire brush. Clean the surface with Hammerite Metal Cleaner. Cast iron: Remove any loose particles, sand down and clean with Hammerite Metal Cleaner. Apply 1 x Hammerite Rust Blocker (as an adhesion promoter). Zinc or galvanised surfaces (e.g. galvanised iron, hot-dip galvanised steel etc.): Important: New zinc or new galvanised surfaces are usually chromated at the factory to protect the workpiece from premature weathering. This chromate layer is very smooth, so that sufficient adhesion of coatings can only be achieved with special primers. If an immediate coating is required for visual reasons, the workpiece must first be sanded and then primed with e.g. Hammerite special primer before the final coat can be applied.
